Supporting NDN This Year

I write to you today under very different circumstances than in years past. Our ideological allies have more power in Washington than at any time since NDN has been in business. The opportunity to advance our agenda - to bring about the kind of change we all desire - is great. But at the same time we are in the midst of a very real economic downturn, depleting the budgets of our supporters and putting stress on non-profits like ours which rely on the generosity of our community.

In short, we have more to do than ever before, but may have fewer resources to do it than we would want.

Which is why I write to you today. As a past supporter of NDN, I ask for your support again this year. Because I understand that these times are challenging for everyone, I am also aware that we here at NDN will have to work harder to demonstrate that we are worthy of your renewed support. So over the next few months, I will be laying out in emails, mailings, conference calls, videos and personal calls and meetings our case for why we are deserving of your support again this year.

Given the uncertainty of cash flow this year, I am making a strong plea for you to make your 2009 contribution to us - 501 c4 or 501 c3 - as soon as possible, and no later than the end of July. The sooner we have our 2009 revenue in hand, the more sure we can be about what we can do in this critical year. Our basic message to you is: if you are planning to support us this year, the sooner the better. Like any enterprise, we are seeking to remove a degree of uncertainty from our planning and operations, and in these uncertain times, we are being very prudent, not counting on income before it arrives. So getting us your money now will go a long way to ensuring that we make as big an impact this year as we can.

To support NDN today, you can just go to www.ndn.org or click here.  To support our 501 c3, The New Policy Institute, you can just go to www.newpolicyinstitute.org or click here. Or, give me a call at 202-842-7217. Look for more from us in the weeks ahead that will make our case - a compelling case I believe. I am very proud of what we have done, what we are doing today, and what we have planned for the future.

So, thank you for your support of NDN in the past, and I look forward to your renewed membership in this wonderful network of thinkers, leaders and advocates at this important time for our nation.

Best,

S
