Simon Rosenberg to Deliver Special Address at Tufts University: "America in the 21st Century: Successfully Meeting the Challenges of a New Age"

On Tuesday, April 20th, the Tufts University chapters of the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network and College Democrats invite you to a talk given by Simon Rosenberg. Simon, President of NDN, a leading Washington-based think tank, is a 1985 graduate of Tufts. He will offer some thoughts on what America needs to do to make the coming century as successful for America and its people as the one just past. In this wide-ranging set of remarks, Simon will touch the impact of new rising powers in the world, structural changes in the American economy, the manner in which evolving technology and media are changing American society, and profound changes in America's demographics - the American people themselves.

The event will be on Tuesday, April 20th at 4:30 pm in Cabot 206. It is sure to be an interesting and thought provoking discussion. For more on Simon and NDN visit www.ndn.org or follow him on twitter at @simonwdc. For more information on the event, email julie.kalt@tufts.edu or shana.hurley@tufts.edu.

The following are recent essays from Simon related to the subject of his speech:

Obama: No Realist He, June 16, 2009, Huffington Post. Simon offers some thoughts about Obama's global brand in the early days of the Iranian uprising. The essay drew many comments in its more than 24 hours on the front page of Huffington Post.

Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century, July 24, 2009, Demos.
An essay which ran as part of a leading British think tank's series of essays on the future of center-left politics.

Crafting an American Response to the Rise of the Rest, January 21, 2010, Cross posted on NDN.org and Salon.com.
Simon argues that the second generation Obama narrative must be a strategic response to the most significant transformation taking place in the world today, what Fareed Zakaria has called the “rise of the rest.” While the true scope of this transformation is only really becoming apparent now, it leaves our new President with the historic opportunity, and tremendous responsibility, to craft a comprehensive strategic response to this global “new politics” of the 21st century.
