Next week we have three great events lined up. On Tuesday, March 8th, together with the Truman National Security Project, we will present a talk with Peter Bergen, author of The Longest War: The Enduring Conflict Between America and Al-Qaeda.
The following day we co-host “Bold and Nimble: A 21st Century Case for Ambitious Government” with Democracy Journal. This presentation will take an in-depth look at the role of government in our new century.
We'll finish the week hosting Shraga Biran, an Israeli civic leader and entrepreneur, in conversation with Garrett Graff, Editor of The Washingtonian, discussing the creation of a transformative blueprint for the 21st century economy.

In the acclaimed new book The Longest War: The Enduring Conflict Between America and Al-Qaeda, journalist and foreign policy analyst Peter Bergen offers a deep and insightful perspective on both sides of the U.S.’s ongoing conflict with Osama bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda network. Michiko Kakutani of the New York Times writes: “For readers interested in a highly informed, wide-angled, single-volume briefing on the war on terror so far, “The Longest War” is clearly that essential book.”

Bold and Nimble: A 21st-Century Case for Ambitious Government
Wednesday, March 9 at 1:00pm, Lunch will be served at 12:45pm, presentation will begin at 1:00pm
NDN: 729 15th St, NW, First Floor
NDN is excited to host a dynamic panel to discuss the recent article The “More What, Less How” Government," published in the Winter 2011 issue of Democracy Journal and authored by Eric Liu and Nick Hanauer. Liu and Hanauer propose a new vision in a time when we face enormous public problems and growing disconnection from government. They suggest that what we need is “more government when it comes to setting great goals and investing to achieve them; less government when it comes to how we collectively meet those goals.”
Eric Liu and Nick Hanauer will be joined by Michael Lind of the New America Foundation, Megan McArdle of The Atlantic, and moderator EJ Dionne of The Washington Post.

Shraga Biran: Opportunism: How to Change the World, One Idea at a Time
Friday, March 11 at 12:30pm. Lunch will be served at 12:30pm, presentation will begin at 12:45pm
NDN: 729 15th St, NW, First Floor
NDN will host Shraga Biran and Garrett Graff for an important discussion about creating a transformative blueprint for the 21st century economy. More than natural resources, an impressive portfolio, or prime real estate, innovation, entrepreneurship and opportunity are today’s currency; physical assets are trumped by social and intellectual capital. Though ideas now drive the global economy, our outdated regulatory systems have barely changed. In his provocative new book, Opportunism: How to Change the World One Idea at a Time, Biran challenges government and the private sector to protect and properly value the creative class, the originators of a new wealth, and to extend to all individuals the rights and stability necessary to own whatever opportunities they create as private property.
