Invite: Fri, March 11th - Israeli Entrepreneur Shraga Biran Joins Washington Monthly's Garrett Graff

We're excited to have just added a new event to our calendar for next week.  Make sure you don't miss this!

Israeli Civic Leader and Entrepreneur Shraga Biran in conversation with Garrett Graff, Editor of The Washingtonian.

On Friday, March 11, NDN will host Shraga Biran and Garrett Graff for an important discussion about creating a transformative blueprint for the 21st century economy.  More than natural resources, an impressive portfolio, or prime real estate, innovation, entrepreneurship and opportunity are today’s currency; physical assets are trumped by social and intellectual capital.  Though ideas now drive the global economy, our outdated regulatory systems have barely changed.  In his provocative new book, Opportunism: How to Change the World One Idea at a Time, Biran challenges government and the private sector to protect and properly value the creative class, the originators of a new wealth, and to extend to all individuals the rights and stability necessary to own whatever opportunities they create as private property.

This lunchtime event will be moderated by NDN President Simon Rosenberg. A live webcast of the discussion will begin at 12:15pm.  To attend, please RSVP.

Shraga F. Biran is the founder of one of Israel’s leading law firms and an entrepreneur specializing in energy and international real estate.  A self-described “opportunist,” especially in the realm of social justice, he has represented critical cases in areas of political, social and civic rights for the last fifty years.  In 2007, Biran was appointed Chairman of Israel's National Task Force on Urbal Renewal by the Israeli Minister of Housing and Land Authority.  He is a regular contributor to Israel's leading media outlets. His second book, Opportunism: How to Change the World, One Idea at a Time, was published in January 2011by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.  Biran lives in Jerusalem.

Garrett M. Graff is the editor of The Washingtonian magazine.  He is widely recognized both as one of the nation’s leading experts on technology and politics as well as a rising star in the media industry.  His first book, “The First Campaign: Globalization, the Web, and the Race for the White House” (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2007), examined the role of technology in the 2008 presidential race.  Graff teaches internet and social media at Georgetown University, and his writing and commentary has appeared in publications like The Washington Post, The New York Times, Wired magazine, Politico, and the Huffington Post.  His second book, “The Threat Matrix: The FBI at War in the Age of Global Terror,” will be published in Spring 2011 by Little, Brown.
