Hispanic Strategy Center
NDN's Hispanic Strategy Center has been established to ensure that all Hispanics living in the United States are given a chance to realize the American Dream. The HSC conducts its own research, advocacy and programmatic activities, and works with other progressive movement leaders and institutions to develop their own efforts to reach and involve the fast-growing Hispanic population. It also sponsors a variety of media campaigns through NDN’s affiliate, the NDN Political Fund. The Strategy Center’s effort build on the work of the New Democrat Network’s Hispanic Project, which pioneered a modern way of speaking to Hispanics from 2002-2004.

January 4, 2008For the past several years NDN has been making an argument that for progressives to succeed in the coming century they would have to build a new majority coalition very different from the one FDR built in the 20th century. November 9, 2007Just three days after their second consecutive election where a massive investment in demonizing immigrants did not pay off for the Republican Party, the leading GOP Presidential candidates have agreed to participate in a December Univision debate in Miami. There is simply no way to read this action as anything but a national repudiation of their extreme anti-immigrant strategy of recent years, and a desperate attempt to beg the Hispanic community for forgiveness.
November 7, 2007For the second consecutive November election, the GOP invested a great deal of money, candidate time and hope in using the issue of immigration to hurt Democrats. And for the second consecutive election it did not deliver for the GOP. Read why.

June 8, 2007The collapse of the immigration bill last night brought up thoughts of the President and his legacy. Immigration reform has been something that he could do that would leave behind something permanent that he could look on with joy and pride. But even now that looks doubtful.
May 25, 2007A clear national consensus to offer undocumented immigrants legal work status and a path to citizenship has emerged. This is no small accomplishment, no small development in what has been a very difficult debate, and must be seen as a tremendous victory for Senator Kennedy and those advocating sensible reform.

At the helm of this is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who introduced last year's Senate bill - which passed with the support of 23 Republicans - with the type of courage this issue has long required.
April 9, 2007Today, the President gave a speech in Yuma, Arizona where he reiterated his positions on the need for comprehensive immigration reform. While we welcome this speech, we've heard this from the President before. At this critical time we need more than words.
