On Tuesday, May 20, Rep. Barney Frank (MA-4th), Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, will address the NDN community on the economy and the markets, as well as his work to advance legislation that addresses the economic downturn caused by the housing and credit crises. This spring, under Chairman Frank’s leadership, members of the Financial Services Committee introduced legislation to combat the unprecedented rise in foreclosures and the associated impact on cities and states.
The House Financial Services Committee oversees all aspects of the nation's housing and financial services sectors. This includes banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities, as well as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Since becoming Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee last year, Rep. Frank has been praised across the board for his leadership. In fact, former Republican Congressman Steve Bartlett (R-TX), now CEO of the Financial Services Roundtable, said, "Barney Frank is fair, he's smart, and he's focused. That's the kind of leadership we need."
NDN will host this event as part of our series of Bernard Schwartz Forums on Economic Policy.
A light breakfast will be served.
