Joe Andrew, NDN Board Chairman - In January 1999 while serving as the Indiana State Democratic Chair, President Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and the Democratic leadership in the U.S. Congress asked Joe Andrew to become the National Chair of the Democratic National Committee. He was elected in February 1999 and served until February 2001. Andrew was one of the youngest national chairs in the nearly 200-year history of the DNC and widely recognized as one of the most successful. Andrew is an entrepreneur, a published author, a frequent speaker on political and demographic trends, a board member of several nonprofit organizations, and a member of various progressive policy organizations. He is a partner at Sonnenschein Nash & Rosenthal LLP in Washington, DC.

 

 


 

 

Andres Ramirez, Vice President, Hispanic Programs - Andres Ramirez has an extensive political background, and has worked on several local, state and national campaigns for the past 12 years. Andres established himself as an experienced political organizer during U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s 1998 re-election campaign during which he spearheaded a successful field program to mobilize Latino voters. Since then, he has worked in various capacities on numerous campaigns across the country. In 2004, he worked as the Nevada State Director for Voices for Working Families, and was credited with registering and mobilizing thousands of new voters. In 2006, he worked as the Deputy National Field Director and the National Targeting Director for Communities United to Strengthen America where he was tasked with implementing political campaigns in 23 congressional districts across America. Ramirez later accepted a position as the Outreach Director for the Nevada State Democratic Party where he was responsible for helping implement the 2008 Nevada Democratic Presidential Caucuses, and creating a plan for engaging and mobilizing Latinos in the Caucus.

 


 

Simon Rosenberg, President, NDN - Simon Rosenberg is President and Founder of NDN, a leading progressive think tank and advocacy organization. Rosenberg has worked in national politics and the media world for more than 20 years. He started his career in network television, as a writer and producer at ABC News for five years, before working on the Dukakis and Clinton Presidential campaigns. On the Clinton campaign, he was a member of the 1992 Clinton War Room. After the campaign, Rosenberg worked at the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Leadership Council and then started what is now NDN in 1996. Rosenberg is a member of the Aspen Institute’s 2001 Class of Henry Crown Fellows and served on the 2004 Democratic National Convention Platform Committee. He sits on the boards of the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service, the publication Democracy: A Journal of Ideas and the Roosevelt Institute. In 2007, Simon was named one of the 50 most powerful people in DC by GQ Magazine.

 


 

Morley Winograd - Morley Winograd is the executive director of the Institute for Communication Technology Management (CTM) at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. He is also the president and CEO of Morwin, Inc., a government reform consulting company. He served as senior policy advisor to Vice President Al Gore and director of the National Partnership for Reinventing Government (NPR) from December 1, 1997 until January 20, 2001. He is co-author of Millennial Makeover: MySpace, YouTube, and the Future of American Politics (Rutgers University Press, 2008) and Taking Control: Politics in the Information Age. His lectures on the topic of technology's reshaping of America have won wide praise in forums as diverse as the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, Los Angeles' Town Hall, Harvard's JFK School of Government, and Bologna University's John Hopkins School of International Affairs.

 




 

Michael D. Hais - Michael D. Hais served for a decade as Vice President, Entertainment Research and for more than 22 years overall at Frank N. Magid Associates where he conducted audience research for hundreds of television stations, cable channels, and program producers in nearly all 50 states and more than a dozen foreign countries. Prior to joining Magid in 1983, he was a political pollster for Democrats in Michigan and an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Detroit. He received a B.A. from the University of Iowa, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, all in political science. He is the co-author of Millennial Makeover: MySpace, YouTube, and the Future of American Politics (Rutgers University Press, 2008).

 

 

 



 

Sergio Bendixen, President, Bendixen and Associates - Sergio Bendixen is recognized as the preeminent expert in Hispanic public opinion research in the United States and Latin America. Bendixen's proficiency originates from his unique ability to merge a diverse set of experiences in public opinion research, communications, politics, and public policy to strategically address the varied portfolio of his clients. With over 25 years of polling experience, Bendixen is undoubtedly an expert in public opinion research. He has mastered research methodologies and has implemented detailed techniques to formulate studies and polls that accurately gauge public opinion. Bendixen has provided primary research and advice for clients both on a national and international level and has directed hundreds of demographic and attitudinal survey projects for statewide and congressional political races, major corporations, and not-for-profit organizations.

 

 



 

Dr. Robert J. Shapiro, Chair, NDN Globalization Initiative - Dr. Robert J. Shapiro is the director of NDN's Globalization Initiative and has been involved in the project since its inception in early 2005. Shapiro has an extensive background examining the American and global economies. From 1997 to 2001, Shapiro was U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs. Prior to his appointment as Under Secretary, he was co-founder and Vice President of the Progressive Policy Institute and the Progressive Foundation. He also was principal economic advisor in Governor Bill Clinton’s 1991-1992 presidential campaign and senior economic advisor to Vice President Albert Gore and U.S. Sen. John Kerry in their presidential campaigns. Dr. Shapiro also served as Legislative Director for U.S. Sen. Daniel P. Moynihan, Associate Editor of U.S. News & World Report, and economic columnist for Slate. He has been a Fellow of Harvard University, the Brookings Institution, and the National Bureau of Economic Research. Shapiro holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, a M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and an A.B. from the University of Chicago. He has lectured at many universities, including Harvard University and Stanford University, and is widely published in both scholarly and popular journals.


 

Michael Moynihan, NDN Green Project Director - Michael Moynihan is currently a William Bowen Merit Fellow at The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and on the faculty of New York University’s Real Estate Institute. In 1999, Moynihan founded the first Internet video sharing community and Web site, AlwaysonTV, pioneering such innovations as personal video channels and video greetings. From 1996 to 1999, he served in the Clinton Administration in which he held the Internet portfolio and advised Secretaries Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers as Senior Advisor for Electronic Commerce. Moynihan has been a fellow of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and was the Robert C. Seamans Fellow in Technology and Public Policy at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He holds degrees from Columbia and Harvard and is currently a PhD candidate at Princeton. Moynihan is the author of the critically acclaimed book, The Coming American Renaissance (Simon & Schuster) and other books. His forthcoming book, Mankind Unbound: The History of Freedom (Palgrave-McMillan) is scheduled for publication in 2009.
